Suryakumar Yadav’s catch in the finals of T20 World 2024, dismissing Miller, was questioned by an Australian newspaper for its “authenticity.”

Ever since Team India became World Champions, winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, they have been making news not just in India but also across the world. An Australian newspaper, too, covered details about the same. However, a comment has irked Sunil Gavaskar, and he has come in support of Suryakumar Yadav, the man who snatched the T20 World Cup from South Africa.

Suryakumar Yadav’s phenomenal catch in the finals.

Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) played a pivotal role in helping India clinch the T20 World Champions 2024 title. His jaw-dropping catch in the finals, dismissing David Miller in the final over, was one of the most sensational catches of the tournament. With 16 runs required in the final over, Hardik Pandya bowled a low-full toss on the first ball, and Miller launched it over long-off to hit the maximum; however, SKY displayed great presence of mind, holding on to the catch and dismissing Miller.

Australian newspaper questions the authenticity of Suryakumar Yadav’s catch.

Speaking on the same, Sunil Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar, “There was also a question raised in an Australian paper about the fairness of the catch that Suryakumar Yadav took to dismiss David Miller in the final. All the replays were clear that SKY had done a marvelous balancing act as he took the catch and flicked the ball up in the air before he crossed the boundary rope and then jumped in the air and caught the ball within the boundary to complete a fabulous catch.”

Gavaskar asks the writer about Aussies’ “most blatant cheating acts.”

Sunil Gavaskar hit back at the article’s writer and added, “Nobody questioned the catch, but the writer of the article did. He may be interested to see the video floating around of the 10 most blatant cheating acts done by the Aussies before typing to point a finger at SKY. Pot calling the kettle black, indeed.”
