SunjayKapur’s inheritance case: PriyaKapur called ‘Cindrella’s stepmother’

Late industrialist SunjayKapur’s inheritance case has been grabbing headlines quite frequently. The dispute between Bollywood actor Karisma Kapoor’s children and their late father SunjayKapur’swidowPriyaSachdevKapur took a dramatic turn during Thursday’s hearing in the Delhi High Court.

The inheritance dispute between Karisma Kapoor’s children and SunjayKapur’s widow, Priya, has made the headlines now and then. During the hearing in Delhi High Court on Thursday, things took a dramatic turn as Karisma’s two children, Samaira and Kiaan Raj, who are seeking a share in their late father’s assets, compared their stepmother, Priya, to ‘Cindrella’s stepmother,’ as reported by the Bar and Bench. Representing Karisma’s children, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani alleged that soon after Sunjay’s death, Priya was in a hurry to appropriate assets. Reportedly, Jethmalani said, according to the report, “The tearing hurry was so that the children’s share is restricted to 26% and she appropriates the rest. Therein lies the veneer. This is no benign stepmother. This is Cinderella’s stepmother.” This remark came in response to SunjayKapur’s will, which was called as ‘bogus’ and with “unimaginable errors” by Karisma Kapoor’s children.

The report says PriyaKapur has nearly a 75% share of the trust.

Mahesh Jathmalani noted that, according to the will, PriyaKapur and her minor son control nearly a 75% share of the trust, while Karisma Kapoor’s two children are left with 26%. He further hit out at Priya’s side, alleging that by publicly stating that Kapoor’s two children received around ₹2,000 crore, she has made the two children targets of kidnapping. The counsel also said that Karisma’s children weren’t informed about the will until July 30, even though it had been executed on March 21, as per a report on India Today. Jethmalani even argued that the court restrain PriyaKapur from creating any third-party rights on SunjayKapur’s assets.

Last month, the Delhi High Court had directed PriyaSachdevKapur to file a comprehensive list of all movable and immovable assets belonging to SunjayKapur in a sealed cover.
