The saga of the pending handover of the Asia Cup 2025 trophy to India, even after nearly two months, doesn’t seem to end anytime soon. It still remains a major talking point in world cricket. Recently, during Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) ’s press conference after India’s T20 series victory in Australia began with a question related to the controversy. However, SKY’s response has been winning hearts.

The very first question of the press conference saw a journalist say to SKY, “Finally got a T20 trophy, a chance to touch the trophy,” slyly referencing how the Indian players didn’t get a chance to celebrate with the Asia Cup trophy after tensions with Pakistan and ACC/PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi led to the latter leaving the stadium along with the silverware. In response, captain Yadav first admitted getting his hands on another trophy after the 5th and final match in Brisbane was washed out just as the first in Perth was. He said, “Feeling good. Just touched it when they gave us that trophy.”

Yadav kept his cool and delivered a suave response, shifting the focus from the Asia Cup trophy controversy in Dubai to the honour of a more important trophy, India’s women’s cricket team’s World Cup 2025 win, won just a week prior in Navi Mumbai. Paying homage to Harmanpreet Kaur’s team after they lifted the first World Cup trophy for women in blue, beating South Africa in the finals last weekend, Yadav said, “But only a week ago, we had another trophy come to India, the World Cup that the women’s team won in India. That trophy has also come home, so feeling good.”

Recently, BCCI secretary DevajitSaikia, on the Asia Cup trophy controversy, said that informal talks had been held between himself and Naqvi to ‘break the ice’ and to create a dialogue for the transfer of the trophy to the Indian team.
