India’s athletes have once again showcased their strength and resilience on the global stage, delivering a remarkable performance at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. With a total of 39 medals- 13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze- the contingent has proven its depth across multiple disciplines, from boxing and weightlifting to athletics, judo, and para-sports. Boxing emerged as the crown jewel of India’s campaign, accounting for seven of the nation’s gold medals. Rising stars such as Preeti Pawar, JaismineLamboria, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas, Arundhati Choudhary, Sachin Siwach, and Ankush Panghal dominated their respective categories, underlining India’s growing stature in the sport. Their victories not only brought glory but also highlighted the country’s expanding talent pool in women’s and men’s boxing. Weightlifting added further sparkle to the medal tally, with Olympic champion Mirabai Chanu leading the charge by clinching gold in the women’s 48kg category. Several other lifters, including Rishikanta Singh, Muthupandi Raja, Gyaneshwari Yadav, and Lovepreet Singh, contributed silver medals, while Bindyarani Devi secured bronze, reinforcing India’s reputation as a weightlifting powerhouse. India’s para-athletes delivered historic performances, securing multiple podium finishes. Sharmila Dhankar (women’s shot put F57), Dilip Gavit (men’s 100m T47), and Soman Rana (men’s shot put F57) each claimed gold, marking a significant milestone in India’s para-sports journey. Their achievements not only brought medals but also inspired millions back home. Judo was another bright spot, with Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh winning gold, while Yamini Mourya and Unnati Sharma added silver and bronze respectively. These victories signalled India’s growing presence in a sport where the nation has traditionally been less dominant. Athletics produced several memorable moments. Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra secured silver in the men’s javelin, while compatriot Yashvir Singh added bronze in the same event. Murali Sreeshankar (long jump), Praveen Chithravel (triple jump), Sarvesh Kushare (high jump), and Gulveer Singh (10,000m and 5000m) also contributed to the medal tally. Tejaswin Shankar’s bronze in the decathlon and Seema Kaliramna’s discus bronze further highlighted India’s versatility in track and field. With finals still to come, India’s tally could rise even higher. Regardless of the final count, the Glasgow Games have already cemented India’s reputation as a rising force in global sport, driven by a blend of established champions and promising newcomers.
