Explore the 80,000 open job positions at TCS and take your career to new heights. Apply now and join the leading IT services company.

According to Amar Shetye, worldwide operations head of TCS’s Resource Management Group (RMG), the company has 80,000 unfilled positions, indicating a mismatch between the skills of present employees and the roles needed. As a result, the company must rely on contractors to fill these gaps.

“We were told that either skillsets or employee aspirations are not matching project requirements,” an anonymous employee told the media house.

Many freshers lack confirmed joining dates due to the delay in onboarding of freshers by Indian IT companies, such as TCS. The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) claims that throughout the previous two years, these delays have impacted over 10,000 freshmen.

The president of NITES, Harpreet Singh Saluja, has received complaints from applicants who have been awarded jobs at prestigious IT firms like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Zensar, and LTIMindtree.

For instance, Infosys notified applicants via email that the company will set the date of joining based on business needs, providing at least three to four weeks’ notice. In the fiscal year 2023–24, the corporation hired 11,900 campus recruiters, a 76% drop from the 50,000 hired the year before.

Wipro has also not fulfilled campus offers made two years ago. “The year before last, we went to campus and made many offers. We are yet to honour those, ” Wipro CHRO Saurabh Govil said during a recent earnings call. “We will finish those offers and then hire new freshers.”

Zensar previously required freshers to verify their continuing interest despite delays, and in April the company asked candidates to complete a test in order to be considered for onboarding.

The reason behind the delay in onboarding is the unpredictability of business in North America and Europe, which has clients wary of investing in IT in the face of slowing indicators. IT companies’ quarterly reports show a notable decline in the industry.

Due to project visibility concerns and an emphasis on necessary skill sets and job readiness, Krishna Vij, business head of IT staffing at TeamLease, projected that 3-5% of freshers hired in 2022 by leading IT services organisations are still awaiting onboarding.

This is happening at the same time as a Moneycontrol story claims the government is trying to collaborate with IT behemoths like TCS, HCL, and Tech Mahindra to create software for quantum technologies as part of the National Quantum Mission (NQM), which aims to advance quantum technology research in the nation.

The research states that the system will cost slightly over ₹6,000 crore in total, with payments due from 2023–24 to 2030–31.

The combined headcount of TCS, Infosys, and Wipro fell by around 64,000 in the fiscal year 2023–24 as a result of these companies’ overhiring during the epidemic and subsequent shift in emphasis towards productivity without adding more employees.

According to the newspaper, Capgemini India CEO Ashwin Yardi said that the company will reduce its campus hiring numbers this year, with last year’s intake consisting of almost 30,000 freshmen.
