The doctors, however, strike a note of caution for the child, who has been in the hospital for days.

Pushpa 2 stampede that happened at the beginning of the month when the film premiered at Hyderabad’s Sandhya Theatre resulted in the death of a woman. It also severely injured her 9-year-old child, who since then has been in the hospital fighting his injuries. He is now showing signs of improvement, said his father, even as doctors cautioned he has a long way to go to recover.

The 9-year-old critically injured patient shows signs of improvement.

The 9-year-old boy has been hospitalised ever since the incident for his severe injuries. He has now started showing signs of improvement, said his father. However, the doctors cautioned that he had a long way to go before recovering. His father, Mogudampalli Bhaskar, said, “At times, he responds. He is opening his eyes for a few seconds. This is the first time he has started responding since he was admitted.” The boy’s mother, M Revathi, 39, died in the stampede.

Doctors say it will take time for the boy to recover.

His father also said that the doctors have told him that his son will take time to recover. Admitted in a semi-conscious condition with low oxygen saturation and irregular breathing at the KIMS hospital in Secunderabad in the early hours of December 5, the boy had slipped into a coma.

Doctors who are treating him said that the child continues to maintain stable vital parameters without any oxygen or ventilator support. They said, “His sensorium is similar to spontaneous eye opening and spontaneous limb movements, but there is still no meaningful eye contact or recognition of family members. He is waking on verbal stimulus but not following any oral commands. He has intermittent dystonic movements and stiffness in his limbs, for which medicines are being given. He needs intermittent suctioning of the tracheostomy tube. He is tolerating feeds via nasogastric tube well and has been febrile since the last three days.”
