The incident happened in a government medical college in Telangana; a case has been registered against the three accused.
A ragging incident took place in Telangana, Hyderabad, where three students from a government medical college allegedly ragged a junior student. A case has been registered against the three students in Nagarkurnool district after a junior student accused them of “ragging”, said the police on Saturday.
Junior was allegedly ragged by three students in a Telangana government medical college.
According to the college principal, the incident occurred on March 25 in a hostel room, where the first-year MBBS student was “humiliated” by his seniors. One of them allegedly beat him with a belt and slapped him. The seniors also demanded his UPI Pin, and when he refused, they beat him up.
Police registered a complaint against the three accused.
Following a complaint, the police registered an FIR against the three seniors, and disciplinary action will also be initiated against them, said the college principal. She added that a meeting of the Anti-Ragging Committee will be held on April 2 regarding the matter. The junior student, in his complaint, told the police that on the evening of March 25, one student asked him to come to their hostel room, where three seniors – one third-year and two second-year students, forced him to perform the “air chair” punishment. The air chair punishment is a physical exercise where a person must squat while sitting in an invisible chair, holding the position for an extended period. After half an hour, he was made to hold a 5 kg LPG cylinder. The three accused then took his phone, accessed his private chats on an instant messaging app and opened his phone gallery. Despite his resistance, the complaint stated that they viewed his photos and videos.
The junior was also “ordered” to kneel with his hands up. When he slightly lowered his hands due to pain, one senior repeatedly beat him up with a belt. The seniors also humiliated him in front of his classmates. One senior forcibly transferred 34 videos and photos from his phone to his. He was also allegedly blackmailed by the seniors, threatening to send the pictures and videos to his father. Police said that after the complaint, the accused were counselled.
