Kiran Verma, a social activist, clicked pictures of the delivery guy having food, thinking he ate the customer’s food, but he thanked Deepinder Goyal for Zomato’s policy regarding food delivery.

The founder of Simply Blood, Kiran Verma, is known for his significant contributions to social causes. Recently, he shared a heartwarming post on LinkedIn thanking Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal for a certain Zomato policy about food delivery.

Kiran Verma shared about a delivery guy thinking he had eaten a customer’s food.

In his LinkedIn post, Verma spotted a Zomato delivery partner eating food that seemed to have been ordered by a customer. He clicked a photo of the partner with that assumption. However, after chatting with him, Verma learned that the customer failed to receive the order. In such cases, Zomato has instructed delivery partners to mark the order as “delivered,” giving them the freedom to do whatever they wish with the food.

What did Kiran Verma write in his post?

He wrote in his post, “It may sound unethical or wrong, but it is good practice because that’s how delivery partners save little money on their food, and wastage can be controlled. I asked why haven’t you consumed the food earlier? He replied ‘Due to Holi, we get incentives to deliver more orders and as afternoon was a peak time. I just kept delivering orders rather lunch.’” He added, “The whole family depends on his earning, and that’s why food like this is nothing less than saving or lifeline to him.” He also shared, “When I offered him to help in any way, he smiled and replied, ‘Sir, I can work harder, but can’t beg.’”

Netizens react to the viral post.

One user wrote, “Marking it as delivered beforehand and then allowing any actions afterward creates an environment that invites exploitation, encouraging malpractice. Just a thought.” Another user wrote, “Zomato needs to make a simple change to the delivery confirmation app for their delivery associates by adding an option of ‘delivery attempted but customer unavailable.’”
