Indian cricketer Virat Kohli creates history by becoming the first batsman to score 8000 runs in the IPL. Get all the latest updates and news on Virat Kohli’s record-breaking achievement.

Guess what? Virat Kohli just made history in the Indian Premier League (IPL)! He’s the first player ever to score a whopping 8000 runs in the Eliminator match against the Rajasthan Royals.

Kohli is having an awesome season, with over 700 runs so far. Remember that amazing 2016 season when he scored 973 runs? This season is almost as good! He’s hit one century and 5 fifties in the 2024 edition. His batting skills have been a major factor in helping RCB make a comeback and qualify for the play-offs. Plus, he’s currently rocking the Orange Cap as the top run-scorer.

Hitting 3000 IPL Runs

In the last match against the Chennai Super Kings, Kohli made even more of a history. He became the first player to reach 3000 IPL runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. That’s pretty impressive, right? He’s also the first player to reach 3000 runs at a single venue in the IPL’s 17-year history. Kohli is definitely a cricket superstar!

Kohli featured in his maiden IPL appearance for the RCB at the Chinnaswamy in the IPL’s inaugural match, against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 18, 2008. He was dismissed for one run in that outing. In 86 innings since the former RCB captain has notched up 22 fifties and four centuries at the venue with a best of 113. Kohli has slammed 124 sixes at the ground.

Overall, Kohli has aggregated over 3400 runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, accounting for 116 runs in eight T20Is for India at the ground since 2012.

Kohli has hit four centuries at one cricket stadium, which is the most any player has done in the Indian Premier League. He’s also tied for second place in all T20 matches, with only Chris Gayle ahead of him. Gayle managed to score five centuries at a different stadium in Mirpur.

Argument Between The Match

On another note, rcb is in the news as controversy came up. During the Rajasthan Royals vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru Eliminator match, there was a big argument when Dinesh Karthik was called out by the on-field umpire for LBW. But then the 3rd umpire stepped in and changed the decision, giving Karthik another chance to keep playing.

Karthik was up to bat with a score of 0 when the ball hit his leg, and the umpire said he was out. But Karthik asked for a review, and the third umpire, Anil Chaudhary, saw a spike on the replay that made it seem like the ball hit the bat first. So, the on-field umpire changed his mind and said Karthik was not out.

But when they looked at it again, it seemed like the spike on the replay was actually from the bat hitting the leg, not the ball. Even the people commentating on the game were confused by what was happening. Ravi Shastri even said it was a really bad decision.

“The bat hit the pad .. that was OUT .. #IPL .. Shocking decision ..,” said former England player Michael Vaughan on X.

The Match

During the game, Royal Challengers Bengaluru scored 172 runs for 8 wickets against Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League Eliminator on Wednesday. The decision made by the officials caused Kumar Sangakkara, who is usually calm and composed, to go talk to them. This left bowler Avesh Khan and everyone else on the field feeling confused.

When it was their turn to hit, Rajat Patidar did the best for RCB by scoring 34 runs in just 22 balls. Virat Kohli, who has been playing really well lately, made 33 runs in 24 balls before getting out to Yuzvendra Chahal’s tricky spin. Mahipal Lomror also helped out by scoring 32 runs in just 17 balls.
