This is the first time a short film was made with Midjourney in just two weeks.

For years, making short films, long-form videos, documentaries, ads, and films has taken weeks and months. Turning ideas into audiovisual excellence on screen has also required a crew of technicians, writers, directors, and the like. However, the same can be done today on a computer screen with zero budget and only a few prompts.

All about Generative Artificial Intelligence.

AI has deepened the democratization of technology to levels where it took Ogilvy executive creative director Karunasagar Sridharan to make a short film in only two weeks titled “Bad Seed.”

What is Bad Seed about?

Bad Seed is a dystopian short film in which the protagonist questions his existence to the point where he realizes that he is only an incorrect prompt and God is not a divine benevolent power. Instead, some entities are using their version of Gen AI to generate human beings.

How did the idea of Bad Seed dawn upon the Ogilvy ECD?

Karunasagar Sridharan, the executive creative director at Ogilvy, highlighted that he wrote the story of this short film in only an hour. Writing the story opened for him the themes of God and people being in a simulation, and that’s how he dived deep into it.

Receiving massive response on YouTube.

Ogilvy’s ECD can’t contain his happiness, as Bad Seed has already been making waves on YouTube, clocking over 22 thousand views in only three weeks. As per a LinkedIn post, “It goes viral in some Reddit community and gets shared 600 times within 3 hours of uploading, reaching half a million people.”

His journey with “Midjourney.”

Interestingly, Ogilvy’s ECD never used Midjourney, an image-generating AI tool, before making Bad Seed or Gen AI tools. He confessed to having only played around a bit with Stable Diffusion. After locking the script, the first edit happened in six days. Director Yashaswini Nath, who is married to Sridharan, helped him sharpen the film and voiced the female God character.

He concludes, “Gen AI brings down the timeline of creating such works by an insane level.”
