As per a report, X is working on a YouTube-like dislike button for down-voting posts.
For years, YouTube has had not just the like button but also a dislike button to showcase the public’s dislikes on certain kinds of content. X is said to be following the same route now, as the platform is working on introducing a YouTube-like dislike button for allowing users to downvote posts or replies.
X to introduce a dislike button.
Elon Musk-owned social media platform X may add a new YouTube-like dislike button, allowing users to downvote posts or comments. Musk took over the platform in 2021, and they have been planning to introduce this feature since then.
A downvote feature for X may get developed.
Reverse engineer Aaron Perris (@aaronp613) said earlier this month that he came across some references in the iOS version of the app’s code that hinted at a downvote feature being developed. Now, he seems to have found some additional images in the app’s code, which indicate that the upcoming downvote button will appear as a broken heart, similar to YouTube Short’s dislike button.
A downvote button by X.
As shared by Perris, when users click on the downvote button, a prompt may appear asking, “Do you want to downvote this post?” This wording suggests that the feature may be limited to posts, not replies, providing a clearer understanding of its potential limitations.
However, another X user (@P4mui) shared a video of the dislike button, which they managed to enable using a feature flag, suggesting that the feature of the dislike button may be limited to replies for the time being.
