The former couple had filed a divorce plea in a family court in February this year.
After much speculation and headlines about the separation of Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and choreographer Dhanashree Verma, today they were granted divorce by the court in Mumbai. They filed a divorce plea in a family court in February of this year.
Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma granted divorce.
On Thursday, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma were granted divorce by the Mumbai Family Court. Confirming the development was Chahal’s lawyer, Nitin Kumar Gupta, who spoke to the reporters outside the court. In a video by ANI, the advocate said, “The court has granted the decree of divorce. The court has accepted the joint petition of both parties. The parties are no longer husband and wife.”
Yuzvendra and Dhanashree’s plea to waive the cooling-off period.
The former couple had pleaded to waive the cooling-off period of 6 months in their case as they applied for divorce by mutual consent. This period is stipulated for every couple after filing for a divorce under the Hindu Marriage Act. However, due to Chahal’s IPL 2025 commitment, he wouldn’t have been available from March 21 (IPL 2025 starts from March 22). Hence, on Wednesday, the Bombay High Court requested that the Family Court decide on the divorce plea by Thursday.
The family court noted that Chahal had paid ₹2.37 crore. It also cited a report of a marriage counsellor, which said there was only partial compliance with the mediation efforts. On Wednesday, however, the High Court held that there was compliance with the consent terms, as they provided for the payment of the second instalment of permanent alimony only after the decree of divorce was obtained.
