Bombay High Court steps in and puts their divorce plea on a fast track due to the upcoming IPL season.

Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma’s divorce news has been making headlines for quite some time now. It is now reported that since Yuzvendra will be playing for IPL 2025 (starting from March 22), he won’t be available from March 21. Hence, the Bombay High Court has stepped in to fast-track their divorce plea.

Bombay High Court fast-tracks Yuzvendra-Dhanashree’s divorce plea.

Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his estranged wife Dhanashree Verma’s plea was allowed by the Bombay High Court, which waived the mandatory 6-month cooling-off period after a divorce plea. The court has directed the family court to decide their divorce plea by Thursday. Chahal’s IPL commitments led the court to put the matter on a fast track. A single bench of Justice Madhav Jamdar said Chahal won’t be available from March 21 as he has to participate in the upcoming IPL 2025, starting from March 22.

Yuzvendra and Dhanashree’s plea for waiving the cooling-off period.

Yuzvendra and Dhanashree filed for divorce in a family court on February 5 this year. They submitted a petition mutually seeking the waiver of the cooling-off period as their divorce was by mutual consent. The family court on February 20, however, refused to waive the same. The duo then challenged the family court’s order in the High Court. Under the Hindu Marriage Act, every couple must undergo a 6-month cooling-off period before they are granted a divorce. Justice Jamdar of the High Court allowed the petition. HC said, “As the petitioner No 1 (Chahal) is a participant of IPL, the advocate informs that he may not be available post March 21. The family court is hence requested to decide their divorce plea by tomorrow (March 20).”

Yuzvendra Chahal will play his first match in IPL 2025 when PBKS start their campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 25.
