Holi 2026 celebrations are over, but what most people are concerned about is how to take care of their skin, eyes, and more after the celebrations. Though it is fun to dance, play, and laugh in Holi parties and celebrations, the post-celebration cleanup can be a big challenge. From struggling to remove stubborn colour stains to dealing with skin and eye irritation, the aftermath gets a bit serious, health-wise.

Here’s how one can protect skin, eyes, lashes, and lips:

Skin: The skin barrier may get irritated if proper precautions are not taken. It is essential to first opt for gentle cleansing rather than scrubbing, which may cause micro-tears and exacerbate irritation, driving pigments deeper. After cleansing, a fragrance-free moisturiser should be the first product used. Ingredients like ceramides, hyaluronic acid, shea butter, or colloidal oatmeal are excellent for restoring the skin barrier.

Eyes: The eyes are the most vulnerable during Holi, as the colours can easily enter them and may cause issues like itching, watering, and redness. It is thus necessary to gently rinse the eyes with clean, room-temperature water or sterile saline solution. Avoiding rubbing the eyes can prevent microabrasions on the ocular surface and significantly reduce the risk of infection. It is important to use over-the-counter eye drops prescribed by a doctor. Contact lenses must also be removed at the first sign of eye discomfort or irritation.

Lips, lashes, and cuticles: These can be among the most exposed areas during Holi and are especially vulnerable to pigments. It is important to avoid harsh scrubs with a nourishing oil or balm for gentle cleansing. For barrier repair, use solutions packed with ingredients such as ceramides, shea butter, and panthenol to restore hydration and prevent post-inflammatory darkening. For lashes and eyelids, one can cleanse the face with a mild, ophthalmologist-tested cleanser or micellar water. For lash nourishment, one can use an oil-based lash serum to strengthen lashes and prevent breakage in the days that follow. Instead of soaps, use gentle cleansers and lukewarm water for cuticles, and apply oils rich in vitamin E, such as jojoba or almond, after Holi to enhance flexibility and prevent hangnails.
