The video, which has now gone viral on the internet, shows the UP farmer dressed as a bear to protect crops from monkeys. The video, shared by ANI on X, showed a farmer dressed as a bear roaming through fields to scare away monkeys that frequently damage crops. The clip, thus far, has garnered 347,000 views and captures the desperation of farmers facing repeated losses. According to locals, monkeys have become a persistent menace, destroying potato and strawberry crops and affecting livelihoods. Speaking with ANI, a farmer identified as Dharambir explained the situation. He said, “Monkeys cause a menace and eat potatoes and strawberries from our fields. There must be more than 100 monkeys here. This happens every day. Monkeys run away after seeing us like this. There should be a solution to this. Two or three of us are doing this.”
Forest officials think this trick may not work in the long term.
Though dressing as a bear can appear to work in the short term, forest officials think it cannot in the long term. Ranger Manoj Kumar acknowledged the issue and said authorities are aware of the situation. He said, “I do not have complete information regarding this, but I have come to know about it. Monkeys run away, but this is not a permanent solution. If they run away from one place, they will reach another. Concrete steps will have to be taken so that we can catch monkeys and release them in the jungle. The Forest Department will make all efforts to catch the monkeys and take action as per instructions.”
