Woman killed over dowry in Gurugram, claims her brother

Another tragic incident of a dowry death has made the headlines. The incident took place in Gurugram, where the woman was allegedly harassed and pressured with demands for money and then killed by her husband. Reportedly, the couple had a love marriage only four months ago.

A radiologist, Arun Sharma and his wife, a nurse, Kajal, started as colleagues at a nursing home in Gurugram. Working closely for long hours together, their bond soon bloomed into a friendship, and before they knew it, the two were inseparable, eventually leading to their marriage in November 2025, only four months ago. However, the relationship has now ended tragically with Arun allegedly killing Kajal over dowry. Soon after their marriage, Arun began to assault Kajal over trivial matters physically, claims Kajal’s brother. She was pressured with demands for money and harassed over dowry, he added.

On Holi, March 4, the couple came to live with Kajal’s family in Gurugram’sGarhiHarsaru. On March 17, nearly two weeks later, Arun, under the influence of alcohol, physically assaulted Kajal. The next morning, Arun took Kajal downstairs for a conversation, and an argument broke out between the two. Shortly thereafter, Kajal was found unconscious, bleeding from her nose. By the time the family rushed her to the hospital, she was declared dead. Kajal’s family claimed to have found a syringe in the toilet, and they suspected that Arun had injected her with poison. The doctor who conducted the post-mortem said the viscera will be sent to a lab for examination, and the cause of death will be determined after the viscera report.

During the police investigation, Arun confessed to administering a poisonous injection to Kajal, leading to her death. The police have now arrested Arun, a native of BehtaHajipur in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad. The accused reportedly has a history of substance abuse. Kuldeep Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Sector 10 Police Station, Gurugram, said, “Arun was arrested from a railway station and will be in police custody for three days.”
