Mumbai man allegedly kills 4-year-old son after child cries for milk

Police have now arrested the 27-year-old man, identified as Rajesh Prakash Singh, in connection with the death of his younger son, Yash.

As per the police, the incident happened in the early hours of Friday in Gautam Nagar at the family’s residence. What began as a child crying for milk reportedly ended in a fatal act of violence, leaving family members and neighbours stunned. Police said Yash was a special-needs child and was heavily relying on milk as a primary part of his diet. On the night of the incident, he allegedly woke up crying and asking for milk. The child’s cries reportedly disturbed his father, who was asleep at the time. Investigators allege that Singh reacted violently after being woken up, leading to the fatal assault. Authorities claim that in a fit of anger, the father allegedly struck the child against a door and repeatedly hit his head against the floor. This resulted in the boy sustaining severe injuries, leaving him dead ultimately.

The family has been facing challenging circumstances.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the family had been dealing with significant personal and financial challenges. Police said Singh was unemployed and allegedly struggled with alcoholism. His wife had reportedly left the family home around two weeks before the incident, citing ongoing domestic difficulties and financial instability. The couple had two children. While the elder son, aged five, had been staying with one of Singh’s sisters, Yash remained at home with his father and grandmother. Investigators are also examining the broader circumstances surrounding the family’s situation as part of the ongoing probe.

The case came to light when Singh informed his sister on Friday morning that his son had died. Following the information, officers from Powai Police Station reached the residence and rushed the child to Rajawadi Hospital. Doctors at the hospital declared the boy dead on arrival. According to police officials, Singh initially gave inconsistent and evasive explanations regarding the circumstances of his son’s death. However, during subsequent questioning, he allegedly confessed to the crime. Police have taken the accused into custody and are continuing their investigation.
