Smartphone maker consolidates under Oppo, continues focus on India.
OnePlus has officially announced two major strategic changes: the end of its custom Android skin, OxygenOS, and the withdrawal of its operations from the United States and Europe. The company will now fully adopt Oppo’s ColorOS across all future devices, while continuing to prioritize India and China as key markets.
The transition from OxygenOS to ColorOS will begin with the release of ColorOS 17, based on Android 17. Existing OnePlus users with eligible devices will have the option to upgrade voluntarily once the update rolls out. According to the company, this move is designed to streamline software development, accelerate updates, and deliver a more stable and reliable user experience. Since 2021, OxygenOS has shared its codebase with ColorOS, and OnePlus phones in China already run on Oppo’s system. Sister brand Realme is also following suit, ending its Realme UI in favor of ColorOS.
Alongside this software shift, OnePlus confirmed it will cease new product launches in North America and Europe. The company described this as part of a “proactive global strategy adjustment.” While no new devices will be introduced in these regions, existing customers will continue to receive support under warranty and consumer protection laws. Remaining inventory will still be sold until stocks are cleared. In contrast, OnePlus’ roadmap in China remains unchanged, while Realme is redirecting its focus to select overseas markets and halting new launches in China.
Speculation had suggested that India might also face an exit, but OnePlus has firmly dismissed these claims. In a statement, the company emphasized that India remains one of its most important global markets and that operations continue as usual. Recent launches in India include four new products, and the upcoming OnePlus N6x is already in the pipeline. Additionally, after-sales service in India is now supported through Oppo’s established network, further strengthening customer support.
In summary, OnePlus is consolidating its software ecosystem under Oppo’s ColorOS and narrowing its global footprint by exiting Western markets. However, it is doubling down on India and China, signaling a sharper focus on regions where it sees the strongest growth potential. This marks the end of an era for OxygenOS, once celebrated for its clean and near-stock Android experience, as OnePlus aligns more closely with its parent company’s broader strategy.
