In one of the most extensive security operations in recent years, Jammu and Kashmir Police have detained nearly 700 individuals suspected of aiding militant groups. The large-scale sweep, carried out across multiple districts, is part of a coordinated effort to dismantle the underground networks that provide crucial support to terrorism in the region.

The crackdown was initiated after a recent terror attack in Anantnag, prompting authorities to intensify their focus on Over Ground Workers (OGWs)- individuals believed to facilitate militant activities without directly engaging in violence. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police teams fanned out across Srinagar and adjoining areas, conducting raids designed to expose and neutralize the hidden infrastructure that sustains militancy.

Officials explained that those detained are undergoing questioning and verification under established legal procedures. The primary objective is to identify individuals suspected of offering logistical assistance, financial backing, communication channels, transportation, and shelter to terrorist organizations. By targeting these facilitators, security agencies aim to weaken the backbone of militancy and prevent future attacks.

The operation was not limited to arrests alone. Searches were conducted at several locations to gather evidence and disrupt any attempts by anti-national elements to exploit the current situation. Police described the drive as both investigative and preventivemeant to maintain public order while simultaneously building cases against those found complicit.

Senior officers emphasized that the sweep was carried out in close coordination with other intelligence and security agencies. This collaborative approach, they noted, ensures that the crackdown is comprehensive and leaves little room for militant networks to regroup.

“We remain committed to safeguarding the lives of citizens. Anyone found supporting terrorism, directly or indirectly, will be identified and brought to justice,” a senior police official stated, underscoring the determination to pursue every link in the chain of support.

Authorities have reaffirmed that such intelligence-driven operations will continue until the entire support structure for militancy is dismantled.
