Greater Noida water contamination case: Over 200 people from a huge society fall sick

Four towers of Supertech Eco Village 2 fell prey to water contamination in Greater Noida, caused by the improper cleaning of the water tanks over three days last week.

Many residents from Greater Noida’s Supertech Eco Village 2 complained of health issues collectively. The residents, mainly from four towers, specifically C-4, C-5, C-6, and C-7, complained about falling sick due to contaminated water.

More than 200 residents in Greater Noida’s huge society fall sick.

It is reported that more than 200 residents, including children from Supertech Eco Village 2 of Greater Noida, have fallen sick due to contaminated water. The children are the most affected, showing symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting. The residents blamed the improper water tank cleaning over three days last week.

Residents complained of health issues.

The issue became evident when several residents at the same time complained about health issues, specifically from four towers of the society C-4, C-5, C-6, and C-7. These towers, consisting of 20-storey buildings with over 160 flats, were affected by water contamination, likely caused by poor cleaning of the water tanks last week over three days. Residents have suspected that the cleaning process has left contaminants in the water, leading to illnesses, as per a report on TOI.

Most effect on children.

In this health issue, children from these towers have been most affected by the contamination. A resident, Abhiram Singh, told the publication that his 3-year-old son became ill with diarrhoea, fever, and vomiting on Monday morning and is now receiving treatment at Surbhi Hospital in Noida. Another resident said, “My son came from a coaching institute and complained of ill health. He vomited twice in the institute. After a while, my younger son, who is aged 8, started complaining of ill health.” He added, “I also came back from the office at 9 pm and felt nauseous around 11 pm. All this is happening due to contamination of water.”

The society’s maintenance team has now inspected the water tanks, collected samples for testing, and promised to address any deficiencies found and promised that those found responsible would face the consequences.
