In Bengaluru’s Bhuvaneshwari Nagar, a 5-year-old boy tragically died, and his parents are in critical condition. The incident happened when they consumed a cake on Monday.The boy, identified as Dheeraj, died after he and his parents fell severely ill shortly after eating the cake at home, as per a report. The boy’s father, Balraj, works as a Swiggy delivery executive and brought the cake home after a customer canceled their order. Shortly after, the family shared the cake, and all three began experiencing severe symptoms of illness. Dheeraj succumbed to his illness, while Balraj and his wife Nagalakshmi are currently in critical condition and receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) at the KIMS Hospital.
What did Swiggy say on the matter?
A Swiggy spokesperson said, “We are heartbroken by the unfortunate incident in Bengaluru, and our thoughts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time. Our team has visited the hospital to meet the family and is extending all possible support. We are also fully cooperating with the authorities as they investigate this matter. Food safety is a top priority for us, and we require all restaurant partners to have an FSSAI license before they are listed on our platform.”
The cause of the incident remains under investigation, with authorities suspecting food poisoning as a possible factor. However, they haven’t ruled out other possibilities, including whether the cake consumption could have been a part of a suicide attempt by the family, a report noted.
