A doctor in Tamil Nadu was assaulted for rejecting a marriage proposal

The marriage proposal came from a married man, and upon rejection, he allegedly started harassing the doctor.

A colleague assaulted a young female doctor in Tamil Nadu after she refused his marriage proposal. The accused is already married. Reports suggest that the 25-year-old victim was admitted to the Hosur Government Hospital after she sustained injuries to the face, neck, arms and other body parts.

The victim got a marriage proposal from an already married man, who is also her colleague. However, upon rejecting his proposal, he allegedly started harassing her. According to a report by the news agency ANI, a probe has been launched against the accused, Dr. Anbu Selvan. Krithika, the victim, speaking to ANI, stated that Selvan had attached himself to her after she rejected his proposals several times. She told reporters, “He kept forcing me to marry him even after I said no many times. I never imagined he would turn violent. I want justice for what I went through.” She added that after she rejected him earlier on, Selvan stopped trying to pursue her until the day he attacked her.

The victim alleged that Selvan took her to the Pattala Palliarea and pressured her to marry him. After she again rejected him, Selvan started harassing her and demanded to know the reasons for her rejection. Krithika claimed that instead of dropping her off at home, Selvan took her to the clinic. She told ANI, “Once inside, he forcibly took my mobile phone, gold chain, bracelet, and watch and assaulted me further.” Staff members heard the assault and rushed in to intervene in the matter. The victim’s mother also reached the clinic after she was unable to reach Krithika’s phone.

According to a preliminary investigation, Selvan is married but currently separated from his wife. A police complaint has been filed with the Adhikaratty police.
