Uttarakhand’s Chamoli sees a landslide at a project site.

A landslide at a project site in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, injured 12 labourers. The incident happened on Saturday when a landslide hit the THDC’s Vishnugad Hydro-electricity project site near Helang in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli district, said an official. Sandeep Tiwari, District Magistrate, said that there were around 300 labourers at work at the project site when the landslide occurred. They ran for life as a rock began to roll down from a hill. Eight of them sustained minor injuries, while four others were seriously injured, he added. He even revealed that injured labourers were admitted to Vivekanand Hospital in Pipalkoti.

The District Magistrate reveals more about the landslide incident.

The district magistrate said that one of the injured labourers got a fracture in the leg. At the same time, another, for whom a spinal MRI was needed, was taken in an ambulance to a hospital in Srinagar in Pauri district. He added that 70 labourers were present at the project site and said, “THDC has been asked to resume work at the site only after ensuring the safety of those at work.”

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police and health department personnel rushed to the spot after being informed about the landslide. Reports say that THDC has been building a barrage to stop the water of the AlaknandaRiver from Helang near Joshimath. The water from the Alaknanda River, diverted through this barrage, will be transported to Pipalkoti via a tunnel, where electricity will be generated using turbines.
