BJP Delhi Councillor Renu Chaudhary apologises after ‘Learn Hindi’ row

Renu Chaudhary, in a viral video, was seen threatening a foreign football coach to learn Hindi.

A video was recently uploaded on social media that showed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) firebrand councillorRenu Chaudhary confronting a man she described as an “African” football coach. However, she drew flak on social media and has now apologised for the same.

After receiving criticism on social media platforms, BJP firebrand councillor Renu Chaudhary has come forward to apologise for her comments of  ‘Learn Hindi’ to whom she described as an African football coach. In the video that had gone viral, she was seen threatening the football coach in East Delhi’s MayurVihar to learn Hindi within a month or stop using a municipal park to train children. She regularly shares videos of her schooling people on what she thinks is wrong. Recently, she shared a clip on her Instagram handle, seemingly showing proudly how she confronted a man she described as an “African” football coach who has been coaching children at a Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) park for years. In the video, she was heard saying, “Kyunnaiseekhi Hindi? Agar isneekmaheene me Hindi naiseekhitohiss se park chheen lo,” [Why have you not learnt Hindi. If he does not know Hindi in a month, snatch the park from him]. As someone laughed in the background, Chaudhary angrily added, “Hasnekibaatnaihai. Serious bolrahihu ye… Yahaka paisa kharahehotohmuh me bhi Hindi bolnaseekho,” [It is not a laughable matter. I am serious… If you’re making money here, learn to speak in Hindi].

Renu Chaudhary apologises for her comments.

In a video message, she said, “MCD parks are meant for children to play and for their coaching activities. If anyone was inconvenienced or felt hurt in any way, I sincerely express my regret. I hope children will continue to play freely in the park as always.” In one of the pinned reels on her Instagram handle, Chaudhary was seen issuing threats in her staple blaring tone over the condition of a footpath. She was heard saying, “Samjhadungikaan me teldaalkegaramgaram,” [I will put hot oil in your ears and make you understand].
