If Rohit Sharma is unavailable, Aaron Finch didn’t seem to agree with Gavaskar’s suggestion of Jasprit Bumrah taking on captaincy in the Perth Test.

Aaron Finch disagrees with Sunil Gavaskar’s suggestion of making Jasprit Bumrah the India captain in the Perth Test if Rohit Sharma is unavailable. Finch reacted strongly to Gavaskar’s suggestion of making Bumrah the captain for the entire Border-Gavaskar Trophy if Rohit Sharma misses playing the first Test, saying there is only one captain of the Indian team.

Rohit Sharma may not be a part of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series opener.

The 5-Test series starts on November 22 in Perth, but it is said that Rohit Sharma may not be a part of the series opener as his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, is due to give birth to the couple’s second child. Addressing his availability for the first Test after India’s 0-3 whitewash against New Zealand, Rohit kept his “fingers crossed.”

Sunil Gavaskar suggests Bumrah’s name for captaincy if Rohit is unavailable.

Sunil Gavaskar responded by implying that BCCI chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar should inform Rohit Sharma well in advance that India cannot afford to begin the series without their captain. He believes that, if necessary, the captaincy responsibilities should be entirely entrusted to Jasprit Bumrah for all five Tests. However, former Australian captain Aaron Finch “totally” disagrees with Gavaskar and feels Rohit Sharma is the one and only captain of the team.

What did Aaron Finch say about Gavaskar’s suggestion?

Aaron Finch on Around the Wicket podcast said, “I disagree with Sunny on that totally. Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian cricket team. If you need to stay at home because your wife’s going to have a baby… that’s such a beautiful moment… and you take all the time that you need in that regard.”
