The four inspectors have been sacked from the DGCA following mass cancellations of IndiGo flights.
Recent reports suggest that after the mass IndiGo cancellations, four inspectors who oversee flight operations have been sacked by the DGCA. The FIOs’ suspension happened before IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers’ expected appearance before the aviation regulator.
Four inspectors overseeing flight ops are sacked by the DGCA.
Four Flight Operations Inspectors (FOIs) have been sacked from their posts at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) amid the ongoing IndiGo flight cancellations crisis. An official said, citing the order dated December 11, “Contracts of these FOIs with the DGCA have been terminated in relation to the recent IndiGo crisis.” The order stated, “Consequent upon approval of the Competent Authority, the following FOls under various categories, on contract basis, in DGCA are hereby relieved from DGCA with immediate effect to join their respective parent organisations.”

These officers, according to the order, include Rishi Raj Chatterjee, consultant (deputy chief FOI); SeemaJhamnani, senior FOI; Anil Kumar Pokhariyal, consultant (FOI); and PriyamKaushik, consultant FOI. FOIs are responsible for overseeing airline safety, pilot training and operational compliance. According to officials, on Friday, the DGCA summoned both the COO, Isidro Porqueras, and the CEO, Pieter Elbers. An officer aware of the development said, “The four-member DGCA committee summoned both COO and CEO separately about the ongoing investigation.” He added that the CEO was called in the afternoon.
The government has also ordered IndiGo, the largest domestic carrier in India, to cut its daily operations by 10% in light of the flight disruptions.
