While in Varanasi, she offered prayers at the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple and indulged in local delights, enjoying the famed Banarasi chaat.

Nita Ambani visited a weaver’s store to purchase Banarasi sarees.

After indulging in Banarasi chaat, she stopped at a weaver’s store to purchase Banarasi sarees for the upcoming nuptials. Visiting the weaver Vijay Maurya’s home in the Ramnagar district, she closely observed the intricate process of making sarees on the handloom. She was captivated by the exquisite embroidery and craftsmanship. Earlier, she had invited several Banarasi artisans and business people to her hotel to review and select sarees. She even has placed orders with multiple weavers, showcasing her deep appreciation for their artistry.

Selection of Lakkha Buti saree.

Angika Kushwaha, a PhD in textiles and saree manufacturer, mentioned that Nita Ambani selected their “Lakkha Buti” saree, which is crafted using the traditional “Kadhua technique” and features one lakh butis. The chairman of the UP Industrial Cooperative Association, Amresh Kushwaha, Angika’s father, confirmed that Nita Ambani purchased over 100 sarees from various weavers for the wedding.

Why is Lakkha Buti’s saree so unique?

The traditional Lakkha Buti saree exemplifies Banaras’s rich heritage and exquisite craftsmanship. It is renowned for its luxurious texture and intricate detailing. The term Lakkha Buti refers to the small, delicate motifs that are meticulously woven into the fabric, often using gold and silver threads. These motifs are inspired by Mughal designs, including floral patterns, paisleys, and leaves.

The weaving process of the Lakkha Buti saree is labor-intensive, requiring skill and precision. Also, the silk used in the Banarasi sarees is of top-notch quality.
