An 8-year-old was found dead inside a rented room of her own house in Agra.
Two days after going missing in the Tajganj area in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra, an 8-year-old girl was found dead inside a rented room of her own house, said police. The victim was found inside a flour container in a room that the family had rented out to one Sunil, the accused, who allegedly also joined the search for the girl before fleeing. Ali Abbas, Deputy Commissioner of Police (City), said the girl went missing on March 24 from the Siddhant Nagar locality in the Tajganj area around 4 pm, as reported by news agency PTI. Soon after, the girl’s family informed the police, following which authorities launched an extensive search operation. According to the DCP, the girl was captured on one of the CCTV cameras in the area as she entered the locality, but she didn’t appear on any other camera thereafter. He was quoted as saying, “Eight teams were deployed to trace the child, and CCTV footage from the surrounding areas was scanned. The girl was seen entering the locality in one camera, but did not appear in any subsequent footage.”
The accused Sunil used to live in the rented room of the house.
The officer further stated that the police teams were suspicious of a flat in the vicinity, and, acting on that suspicion, they broke open the lock of a rented room. The accused, Sunil, reportedly rented the room where the victim used to live in the same house. Abbas added, “During the search, the girl’s body was recovered from a flour container inside the room.” Officials say the accused is absconding and thus multiple police teams have been formed to trace him. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death. The accused has reportedly been living in the house as a tenant for about a year while working at the 8-year-old’s family’s show factory, as per a neighbour. She even claimed that initially Sunil had joined the search for the missing girl, but later he locked his room and fled, raising suspicion among the locals and cops.
Locals infuriated by the incident staged protests and demanded stringent action against the accused.
