From curiosity about cold-shock proteins to a daily test of resilience, Warikoo explains why he embraces discomfort every morning.

For entrepreneur and content creator Ankur Warikoo, mornings begin with a challenge most people would avoid – a cold-water shower. What started four years ago as an experiment in understanding the science of cold-shock proteins has now become a non-negotiable ritual that sets the tone for his day.

Warikoo recalls first encountering the concept of cold exposure and its potential benefits. Intrigued, he decided to try it for himself. While the science initially drew him in, the practice soon evolved into something deeper. “It’s the first hard thing I do every day that I nearly hate doing,” he shared, emphasizing that the discomfort is precisely what makes the habit valuable.

Over time, the showers became less about biology and more about mental conditioning. By deliberately starting his day with something unpleasant, Warikoo reframes his perspective on everything that follows. “Everything that comes after feels smaller,” he explained, highlighting how this ritual strengthens his resilience and ability to tackle challenges with clarity.

Cold-water exposure has long been associated with improved circulation, heightened alertness, and stress adaptation. But for Warikoo, the benefits go beyond physical wellness. The act itself symbolizes discipline- a reminder that growth often lies outside comfort zones. His consistency over four years reflects a mindset rooted in endurance and self-mastery.

This revelation comes shortly after another bold decision in his professional life. In May, Warikoo announced the closure of his Rs 100-crore education venture, which had grown to serve over five lakh students and generated Rs 25 crore in profit. Despite its success, he felt it no longer aligned with his vision. “It makes no sense to continue it,” he wrote, underscoring his willingness to let go of even thriving projects when they no longer serve a purpose.

Together, these choices whether stepping under icy water each morning or shutting down a profitable business  reveal a philosophy built on resilience, discipline, and the courage to embrace discomfort. For Warikoo, the cold shower is more than a wellness trend; it is a daily reminder that strength is forged in the moments we resist, endure, and ultimately grow.
