The filmmaker also spoke about ‘Stolen’ and Hindi cinema in a recent chat.
Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, in a recent chat with a leading portal, spoke about ‘Stolen’, the action-thriller that premiered on Amazon Prime Video. He is one of the four executive producers of the film, along with Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao, and Nikkhil Advani. He spoke about backing Stolen, filmmakers not seeking reviews for validation, and more.
Anurag Kashyap on being an executive producer of Stolen.
He said that the USP of the film is not the names behind it but the content. He emphasized, “Us being there helps because we all come from very different thoughts of filmmaking. All four of us have very different styles of filmmaking. So, if all of us are coming behind one film, it helps it reach out to diverse audience.” Speaking about a new director Karan Tejpal getting the backing of four experienced filmmakers, he called it a “fantastic thing.” He added, “I wish I had that early in my career. Imagine four senior filmmakers coming together to support the release of Gulaal, Black Friday, or Paanch. It would have been so great.”
Anurag says validation today doesn’t matter.
He said, “I remember a time when we got great reviews for our movies from critics that we looked up to for validation. It gave us personal joy. Now, it doesn’t matter. Gine chune 4-5 reviewer hain jinko respect karte hain (There are 4-5 critics who command respect).”
Nikhil Advani, who was also present during the chat, said that audiences no longer trust the filmmakers due to “paid reviews” and other unethical practices.
