Andy Park’s farewell illustration reveals Loki and returning X-Men
Marvel fans have been given their first real glimpse of Avengers: Doomsday through newly released concept art, and it’s already sparking excitement. Shared by former Marvel Studios visual development director Andy Park, the artwork depicts Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and features a striking mask design that sets the tone for his anticipated debut. Alongside Doom, the illustration highlights Tom Hiddleston’s Loki and several beloved X-Men characters who had not yet appeared in official promotional material.
Park posted the artwork on July 11, describing it as a deeply personal milestone. “Avengers: Doomsday – the final full film I had the honor of leading as Director of Visual Development at Marvel Studios,” he wrote, noting that the piece commemorates his journey at Marvel. After 16 years, more than 40 films, and leadership on 15 projects, Park’s departure marks the end of an era. He was among those affected by Disney’s layoffs earlier this year, and this illustration serves as both a farewell and a gift to fans.
The concept art reveals the return of X-Men favorites: Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer reprising Beast, and Rebecca Romijn as Mystique. Their inclusion signals Marvel’s intent to weave the mutants more prominently into the Avengers storyline. Loki’s mysterious placement at the center of the image adds intrigue, hinting at his pivotal role in the unfolding saga.
Beyond the characters, the artwork underscores the scale of Avengers: Doomsday. The film is shaping up to be one of Marvel’s most ambitious ensemble projects yet, featuring an expansive cast that includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Simu Liu, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Joseph Quinn, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Letitia Wright, and many more.
For Park, the release is a celebration of his legacy at Marvel Studios. “Marvel Studios Visual Development: 2010–2026. End of an era. I was there at the start of a team that broke the mold,” he reflected. His tenure helped shape the visual identity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and this final piece encapsulates that creative journey.
With its worldwide release scheduled for December 18, 2026, Avengers: Doomsday promises to deliver a spectacle that blends new faces, returning legends, and unexpected alliances. The unveiling of Doctor Doom, Loki, and the X-Men sets the stage for a film that could redefine Marvel’s future.
