Sanjay Dutt reflects on fading unity in the film industry.

Veteran actor Sanjay Dutt, who began his cinematic journey with Rocky in 1981, recently opened up about the transformation he has witnessed in Bollywood over the past four decades. In a candid conversation with Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy on AIG Hospitals’ YouTube channel, the star shared his thoughts on how the industry has shifted from a family-like environment to a more competitive, fragmented space.

Dutt recalled that when he first entered films, the atmosphere was warm and collaborative. “Back then, the industry felt like one big family. Everyone supported each other, and there was genuine camaraderie,” he said. However, he lamented that this sense of togetherness has gradually eroded, giving way to a cutthroat culture in which competition often overshadows friendship. “It’s sad, but I hope that spirit of unity returns someday,” he added.

Drawing a comparison with Hollywood, Dutt highlighted how international film communities appear more cohesive. He praised the way actors, writers, and industry bodies in Hollywood stand by one another, even as they compete. “In Hollywood, there’s competition, but it’s healthy. You see actors celebrating each other’s success without jealousy. At events like the Oscars, the joy feels genuine. That kind of unity is beautiful,” he observed.

Despite the challenges, Dutt continues to share strong personal bonds within Bollywood. His recent reunion with Salman Khan, captured in a heartfelt Instagram post, reminded fans of the enduring friendships that still exist in the industry. The image of the two stars embracing resonated deeply with audiences, offering a glimpse of the warmth that Dutt hopes will return to the larger film fraternity.

On the professional front, Dutt was last seen in Aakhri Sawal, a political drama directed by Ahijeet Mohan Warang. Unfortunately, the film struggled at the box office, earning only ₹3 crore and receiving poor reviews. Yet, the actor remains optimistic about his upcoming projects. He is set to reprise his iconic role as Ballu in Khalnayak Returns, a fresh take on the 1993 classic. Interestingly, the idea for the sequel first came to him while he was in prison, where he sought feedback from fellow inmates. Their enthusiastic response convinced him to pursue the project, which Subhash Ghai later endorsed.
