A fire broke out in an empty ‘private camp’ at the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, two days after seven tents were gutted due to a blaze at an “ashram” in Sector 19 of the Kumbh Mela area, as reported by news agency ANI. While more details regarding the matter are awaited, Chief Fire Officer Pramod Kumar Sharma said it was a ‘minor’ blaze and was doused shortly after it broke out. He told reporters, “The camps of Shri Kapi Manas Mandal and Upbhokta Sanrakshan Samiti caught fire. Two tents of each camp were gutted. There is no injury or loss of life.”

A total of five fire incidents happened at the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025.

A total of five fire incidents have occurred at the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela thus far. The first occurred on January 19, and the second and third on January 30 and February 17. As many as 30 devotees have lost their lives in a stampede here on January 29. The stampede occurred as a larger-than-expected crowd turned up on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya to perform the holy dip in the Triveni Sangam (the meeting point of rivers Ganga, Jamuna and Saraswati) in Prayagraj.
