Government orders CBI probe into allegations of irregularities in NEET UG exams

Amidst the allegations of malpractices in NEET UG examinations, the government has taken a proactive step by ordering the CBI to conduct a comprehensive investigation.

Out of several other things happening around the country, one thing that has remained on top of headlines for a couple of days is controversies regarding NEET UG examinations. Several irregularities and malpractices have been allegedly committed in NEET UG exams. For the same, the center ordered the CBI to investigate this matter deeply.

Central government orders a CBI probe.

On Saturday, the central government ordered a CBI probe into the allegations of irregularities and paper leaks in the conduct of the NEET exams for admission to undergraduate medical courses.

Education Ministry stresses the need for transparency in the matter.

The Union Ministry of Education, in a statement, said, “Certain cases of alleged irregularities and malpractices have been reported” about the NEET examination and that for transparency in the conduct of the examination process, the Ministry of Education, after a review, has decided to entrust the matter to the CBI for a comprehensive investigation.

Ministry further ensures the sanctity of the exams.

Ministry of Education further said that they are committed to ensuring the sanctity of examinations and protecting students’ interests. It emphasized, “It is reiterated that any individual/ organization found to be involved will face strictest action.”

Allegations of malpractices and question paper leaks.

Allegations such as question paper leaks and other malpractices were raised after the results showed that more than 67 students secured maximum marks, some coming from the same exam centers. An initial probe discovered paper peaks and irregularities in Bihar. Also, a few candidates came forward publicly claiming they received question papers on the exam’s eve.

The allegations have led to protests across cities, and petitions have been filed in many high courts and the Supreme Court. The CBI is now probing the alleged paper leaks of the UGC NET. As a “precautionary measure,” the Union Health Ministry also postponed the NEET-PG entrance exam and CSIR-NET.
