A shocking incident has come forward from Andhra Pradesh, where photos and videos of girls from a girls’ hostel were leaked from their washroom and circulated in the boys’ hostel. It is said that more than 300 photos and videos were shared among boys, some even purchasing them. After the hidden camera in their washroom incident, a protest has been ongoing among girls.

Protests have been widespread in Andhra Pradesh after a hidden camera was found in a girls’ hostel washroom at SR Gudlavalleru Engineering College in Krishna district of the state on Thursday. Female students gathered in large numbers at the hostel, chanting slogans for justice and urging authorities to take action against those responsible for ensuring the safety of the campus.

Videos of girls recorded circulated among boys’ hostel.

The videos recorded by the hidden camera in the washroom of the girls’ hostel were reportedly circulated among students in the boys’ hostel. Police have already taken a final-year engineering student into custody in connection with the case, and an investigation is underway.

How was the hidden camera discovered at the girls’ hostel washroom?

On Thursday evening, a group of female students in their washroom found a hidden camera, which caused immediate alarm and distress, as per an NDTV report. This discovery triggered a chaotic response, with students organizing protests that started around 7 pm and continued till Friday morning. They chanted slogans of “We Want Justice.” Police say that the investigation is ongoing, and they are still determining if additional students are involved in setting up a camera and distributing the videos among boys.

Former police officer V V Lakshmi Narayana, in a post on X, said, “The Gudlavalleru Engineering College incident involving spy cameras in a women’s hostel is highly deplorable and a severe breach of privacy. Such incidents demand urgent and strict action. The police must thoroughly investigate and bring the culprits to justice. Additionally, like the legislation in UP, there is a need for new laws to regulate social media and digital platforms, ensuring that such violations are prevented and swiftly punished.”
