Bollywood star voices frustration at being typecast as the “good guy”
Hrithik Roshan’s latest Instagram post has stirred curiosity about the direction he wants to take in his career. The actor, celebrated for his heroic and positive portrayals, admitted he feels constrained by the roles offered to him. He revealed that filmmakers often approach him only for virtuous characters, leaving little room to explore darker, more layered personalities.
In his post, Hrithik recalled his cameo as Zaffar in Luck by Chance (2009), a character who was charming yet flawed. Despite limited screen time, Zaffar remains one of his standout performances, proving his ability to embody complexity beyond the conventional hero image. Hrithik confessed that he would eagerly embrace a role like Zaffar again, but lamented that directors rarely envision him in such parts.
The actor shared a selfie taken on a Paris street with the Eiffel Tower glowing in the background. Dressed in a black cap, jacket, and scarf, he reflected on the kind of roles he craves. His caption revealed both his longing for artistic challenges and his disappointment at being typecast. Zoya Akhtar, who directed Luck by Chance, quickly responded with a playful comment suggesting they meet for coffee—hinting at the possibility of future collaboration.
Hrithik’s career has been defined by blockbuster successes, from his debut in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai to action‑packed hits like War and the Krrish franchise. Yet his remarks suggest a desire for reinvention, signalling a shift toward more daring and unconventional roles. On the professional front, he is preparing to direct and star in Krrish 4, a much‑anticipated superhero project backed by Yash Raj Films and Rakesh Roshan. He is also venturing into the digital space as a producer with Storm, a Mumbai‑based thriller for Prime Video.
This candid revelation underscores Hrithik’s readiness to experiment with roles that defy audience expectations. Much like actors who have successfully redefined themselves through anti‑hero portrayals, Hrithik’s openness to darker characters could reshape both his career trajectory and the way Bollywood casts its leading men.
