Ian Chappell claims that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are ageing, but they can resurrect themselves over the next month.
Ian Chappell has addressed the latest performance of cricket icons Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli and called them “ageing” players in the build-up to the 5-Test series against Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. India recently had a devastating loss against New Zealand at home, and the team hasn’t had the best preparations leading up to their tour Down Under. The Indian team is currently in a bit of a rocky period with two Indian batting superstars who are not in their best forms.
“The two are getting bogged down by the outside noise,” says Chappell.
Ian Chappell, speaking on Kohli’s and Rohit’s lack of form and runs, says that there is a chance the two are getting bogged down by the outside noise surrounding their future. Some fans think Rohit and Kohli are past their time, while others are confident about their comeback. Chappell reckons Rohit and Kohli can only bat themselves out of the rut by batting on better, quicker pitches in Australia.
Ian Chappell says Rohit and Kohli are ageing.
During a discussion on World Wide Sports, Ian Chappell said, “India has got some batting problems. [Yashasvi] Jaiswal is a very good-looking young player; left hand opener. I think [Shubman] Gill can really play, but then you’ve got Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who are both ageing. And you get to that point where people start talking about it and maybe it starts to creep in the head a little bit ‘Are we getting to that age where it all starts to go downhill?’ They are both at that age.”
He added, “The only thing I would say against that is they are coming to Australia, where the pitches will be pretty good, but there’ll be the extra bounce, and if they have gone over the top, that extra bounce will find them out.”
