It is celebration time for India, as the Indian Hockey Team has made everyone feel proud back home from Paris. They won the match against Spain and clinched a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024. This became India’s second consecutive bronze medal in the Olympics and 13th in hockey.

India defeated Spain 2-1 in the hockey match and made its name by winning back-to-back bronze medals in the Olympics. This also marked India’s first consecutive medal after a gap of 52 years. The last they consecutively won were in 1968 and 1972. India won five bronze medals at the Paris Olympics, and a silver medal with Neeraj Chopra in the javelin throw.

Harmanpreet Singh, the India captain, netted the equalizer seconds before the half-time hooter. Marc Miralles, Spain’s skipper, opened the scoring with 11 minutes remaining in the second quarter. However, Harmanpreet Singh doubled India’s tally with an outstanding brace in the third quarter. PR Sreejesh, in his final international event, made a phenomenal save in the final quarter to help India win 2-1 against Spain.

PR Sreejesh bid adieu to international hockey with a medal at the Olympics. His performance in the quarterfinals against Great Britain at the Olympics stood as one of the highlights of his career, which is why he is also called the “Great Wall of India.” In the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, PR Sreejesh also led India to win a medal after 41 years, making crucial saves in the bronze medal match against Germany.

Meanwhile, Odisha CM Mohan Manjhi announced a cash reward of Rs. 15 lakh each for Indian Hockey players and Rs. 10 lakh each for the support staff.
