Zaheer Khan was appointed Lucknow Super Giants mentor on Wednesday before the IPL 2025 mega auction. This appointment will mark Zaheer Khan’s return to the management fold in the IPL after two years, having spent five seasons from 2018-2022 with 5-time champions Mumbai Indians.
Taking on the role left vacant by Gautam Gambhir.
Zaheer Khan will be taking over the role left vacant last season after Gautam Gambhir, now the India head coach, moved to take over the Kolkata Knight Riders mentorship. KKR went ahead in lifting the title last season, while Lucknow finished seventh in the standings in their third IPL season. Initially, Zaheer Khan worked as the director of cricket with the Mumbai Indians before he took over the role of head of global development of the franchise.
Lucknow Super Giants also needs a bowling coach after former South Africa pacer Morne Morkel left the role to take up a coaching stint within the Indian men’s national side. During his playing days, Zaheer Khan, who has to his credit 610 international wickets across formats, represented three franchises – Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Delhi Daredevils; LSG currently has Justin Langer as the head coach and Lance Klusener and Adam Voges in the support staff.
