Alia Bhatt drops Jigra’s teaser trailer.

Actor Alia Bhatt on Instagram recently shared the teaser trailer of her upcoming film “Jigra,” with actor Vedang Raina (Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies fame), where the two play brother-sister. In the teaser, Alia Bhatt is seen in full protector mode for her brother, played by Vedang. Vasan Bala directs the film, and it seems to be an emotional brother-sister story with ample action involved.

What does the teaser show?

The teaser begins with a depressed Alia Bhatt in a messy ponytail, narrating her life story to Manoj Pahwa’s character. She reveals that her father died by suicide after her mother died. Since then, she and her brother have been orphans, which is why she has sworn to protect him, the only family member she is left with. An event leads Vedang’s character to get imprisoned and tortured in jail, but Alia’s character, Satya, is hell-bent on protecting him. She even resorts to violence. These emotional and action sequences are played across the cover of Phoolon Ka Taro Ka,” a song from Dev Anand’s 1971 directorial Hare Rama Hare Krishna, reprised by Achint, sung by Vedang, with additional lyrics by Varun Grover.

Reference of Amitabh Bachchan in Jigra.

Apart from the song from a 1971 hit film, there is also a reference to Amitabh Bachchan as the Angry Young Man from the 1970s. Manoj Pahwa’s character warns Alia’s Satya, “Bach ke niklana hai, Bachchan nahi banna (You’ve to escape unscathed, not become Bachchan).” Alia responds, “Ab toh Bachchan hi banna hai (There’s no option but to become Bachchan now).”

Jigra is set to release in theatres on October 11, 2024.
