The 1983 World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, gave a no-nonsense take on the uncertainty over the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy venue, which is scheduled to be held in February 2025. The BCCI has officially told the International Cricket Council (ICC) that it won’t send Team India to Pakistan for the mega tournament amidst the political tensions between the two nations. The PCB, on the other hand, has begun preparations for hosting the Champions Trophy by renovating stadiums, but the BCCI wants the ICC to adopt the hybrid model for the tournament.

Kapil Dev’s take on the matter.

Former India captain Kapil Dev emphasized the role of the government in making such decisions. He said, “It’s the government’s responsibility. People like us should not give opinions; our opinions don’t matter. Kapil Dev can’t be bigger than anyone else.”

Pakistan earmarks a few venues for the Champions Trophy.

Initially, the PCB had selected locations that were part of the PoK, which prompted massive negative reactions from the BCCI. The PCB then decided to earmark Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi as the venues for the event, which will begin on February 19 and conclude on March 9.

Pakistan’s cricket fraternity reacted strongly to India’s decision and said that if the ICC adopts a hybrid model or shifts the tournament out of their country, then Mohammad Rizwan and Co should not participate in the tournament.
