Another shocker has come in the form of this latest report that claims the Kolkata hospital official told the family of the rape-murder victim that she died by suicide. The hospital’s assistant superintendent allegedly told the victim’s family that she died by suicide on the hospital premises, as reported by India Today, citing unnamed sources.

Kolkata police summons the official and head of the department.

The Kolkata police have summoned both the official and the head of the department, Chest Medicine Wing, for questioning today, August 13, added the report. However, no one has independently checked the accuracy of this information.

RG Kar Medical College’s principal resigns.

Sandip Ghosh, the principal of RG Kar Medical College earlier in the day, resigned from his post and government service. He said to ANI, “I am getting defamed on social media. It is not good. The deceased doctor was like my daughter. As a parent, I resign. I don’t like that this should happen to anyone in the future.”

Resident doctors are on indefinite strike.

Government hospitals’ resident doctors have gone on an indefinite strike against the horrific incident. This has paralyzed elective services like OPDs and non-emergency surgeries. They have requested immediate transfer of the case to the CBI and called for a transparent investigation.
