Kolkata rape-murder case: IMA questions the presence of “non-experts” at the crime scene

One of the persons whom the Kolkata police identified as a fingerprint expert was a first-year trainee doctor at another hospital.

On Friday, IMA’s Bengal state branch said that one of the individuals the Kolkata police identified as a fingerprint expert was a first-year trainee doctor of another hospital. There have been allegations of the evidence being tampered with at the crime scene in the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the Indian Medical Association (IMA) has raised questions over the identities of two people who were seen inside the cordoned off area of the crime scene.

Two people were found inside the cordoned-off area of the crime scene at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, whose identities have been questioned by the IMA amid allegations of the evidence getting tampered with at the crime scene. This comes a day after the Kolkata police stated that all those who had entered the area cordoned off by the investigators to protect the crime scene were associated with the investigation.

The fingerprint expert was a trainee doctor at another hospital.

A statement by the Bengal state branch of the IMA said that one of the persons whom the Kolkata police identified as a fingerprint expert was a first-year trainee doctor of another hospital. The statement read, “…When Dr Avik De became a fingerprint expert? As we all know, he is a 1st year postgraduate trainee of the surgery department of SSKM (Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial) Hospital.” Questions were raised about another man, who was seen wearing a purple-colored shirt, standing near the cordoned-off area in the video. A member of IMA, Avik Ghosh, told the media, “We suspect that it was Birupaksha Biswas, who shared close links with Dr Sandip Ghosh, former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. What was he doing there?”

Indira Mukherjee, deputy commissioner (central division), said that only policemen, forensic experts, videographers, and fingerprint experts could be seen in a video that was making the rounds on social media.
