The latest controversy surrounding Laapataa Ladies’ official entry into the Oscars.
As soon as Laapataa Ladies was selected as India’s official entry into Oscars 2025, many fans felt excited and happy for the team, but a section of the audience felt other Indian films made were more deserving, like “All We Imagine As Light,” which even received the honor of the Cannes Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival. Also, the Film Federation of India’s (FFI) description of women in its citation, describing why it selected Laapataa Ladies, created controversy by calling Indian women a “strange mix of submission and dominance” in the first line.
