Wednesday morning brought with it a horrifying incident of a plane crash in Nepal. Domestic Saurya Airlines skidded off the runway and crashed at Kathmandu Airport, wherein it is reported that only the pilot managed to survive, whereas 18 out of 19 passengers were killed in the crash.

The tragic incident of the Nepal plane crash has shaken everyone. On Wednesday, the domestic Saurya Airlines caught fire after skidding off the runway at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu while trying to take off. This incident killed 18 out of 19 passengers, and only the pilot of the CRJ200 aircraft managed to survive the dreadful incident.

Saurya Airlines carried two crew members and 17 technicians to Pokhara city for maintenance checks, as stated by Arjun Chand Thakuri, the Airport Security Chief. As per the Civil Aviation Authority, the 9N-AME/CRJ 200 call sign aircraft of Saurya Air crashed at 11:11 am local time while taking off from the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu to Pokhara. According to Flight Radar 24, the airline operates domestic flights in Nepal with two Bombardier CRJ-200 regional jets, both around 20 years old. The eyewitnesses said that the plane took off from the Southern end of the runway when it tragically flipped with the wing tip hitting the ground.

Who survived the Nepal plane crash?

The captain, identified as Captain Manish Ratna Shakya, an airline pilot of the CRJ200 regional aircraft and also the Chief of Operations at Saurya Airlines, has managed to survive the plane crash, as reported by the airline’s official website. The police have reported that he has been rescued and taken to KMC Hospital, Sinamangal, for treatment. A doctor at the hospital said that the pilot had injuries to his eyes but was out of danger.
