Like the European Union ruling, the Indian government also wants USB-C to become the standard charging port for mobile devices and the cables used to charge smartphones and tablets.

Laptops to follow suit for USB-C charging.

Reports also suggest that laptops will be next on the hit list for USB-C charging, which will come into effect at the end of 2026. For now, the ruling will exempt categories like wearables and hearables (wireless audio gear).
