“I have serious reservations about Gautam Gambhir..” said former Australia captain Tim Paine.
Gautam Gambhir was at the receiving end after former Australia captain Tim Paine criticized the India head coach after his war of words with Ricky Ponting. He continued his verbal attack on India’s head coach ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Tim Paine criticizes Gautam Gambhir.
Tim Paine termed Gambhir’s (in) ability to stay calm under pressure, terming it “the biggest concern for India” in the 5-match series against Australia beginning on Friday, November 22. While explaining the difference to Ravi Shastri, under whom India beat Australia in the last two Tests, he said he had serious reservations about the former India opener’s temperament and has doubts whether Gambhir’s approach would suit the Indian team.
Tim Paine praised former India coach Ravi Shastri.
In his column for Codesports, Tim Paine on Ravi Shastri wrote, “One of the things that I thought really helped India in those two away series wins against us was the attitude of their coach Ravi Shastri. Boisterous and seemingly carefree, he emboldened his players not to be daunted despite circumstances conspiring against them and rebound from the adversity of being bowled out for 36 in Adelaide in the first Test of 2020-21. I have serious reservations about new coach Gautam Gambhir and whether his temperament and approach suits this group of Indian players.”
Tim Paine’s comments stemmed from Gautam Gambhir’s war of words with legendary Australia cricketer Ricky Ponting. He expressed concerns about Virat Kohli’s form in the upcoming BGT series. On the other hand, when Gambhir, in the pre-departure press conference, was asked if he was worried about the same, the India head coach came with a feisty response that didn’t go down well with the Australian cricket fraternity. Ponting called Gambhir “prickly,” which Paine echoed.
