PM Narendra Modi told Ukraine’s Zelenskyy that New Delhi is ready to contribute proactively to peace efforts.
Recently, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met each other after PM Modi visited Ukraine. On Friday, PM Modi said that India had not been “neutral or an indifferent bystander” ever since the war between Russia and Ukraine began and emphasized that India has always been on the side of peace.

Narendra Modi, the PM of India, met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and said that India is not an indifferent bystander and has always been on the side of peace. He said this during an interview with the Ukrainian President in Kyiv and added that the conflict can be resolved only through dialogue and diplomacy. He also said that New Delhi is all set to make proactive contributions towards peace efforts, as Reuters quoted him as saying.

India’s external affairs minister, S Jaishankar, later revealed details of the bilateral meeting between PM Modi and Zelenskyy and said, “Much of the discussions between PM Modi and President Zelenskyy was about the war in Ukraine.” He added that the PM called for “practical engagement between all stakeholders to develop innovative solutions that will contribute towards peace.” He also said, “Modi and Zelenskyy tasked inter-governmental commission to specifically focus on rebuilding trade and economic relations.”
S Jaishankar hopes President Zelenskyy will visit India soon.
The minister said that in the meeting, the leaders also spoke on trade, defense, pharmaceuticals, economic issues, education, and agriculture. ANI quoted the minister saying, “The leaders also tasked the Intergovernmental Commission, of which Minister Kuleba and I are the co-chairs, to specifically focus on rebuilding our trade and economic relations, which had gone down recently. And we certainly look forward to having an early meeting of that body by the end of this year.” He concluded, “PM Modi’s visit to Ukraine is historic, and we hope President Zelenskyy will visit India at his convenience as well.”
