On Saturday, in a gathering during the inauguration of the National Conference of District Judiciary in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi underlined the need for faster justice in cases involving crimes against women. His statement comes amid the ongoing case of rape and murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

PM Modi on Saturday, during the National Conference of District Judiciary in New Delhi, spoke on women’s safety in the country and emphasized how swift justice is needed in crimes against women, which will give them greater assurance of their safety. His remarks have come amid the outrage in India over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and the sexual assault of two kindergarten girls in Badlapur’s school.

“Faster the justice, greater the assurance of safety.”

While addressing the conference in New Delhi, PM Modi, in the presence of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, said, “Today, atrocities against women, safety of children are serious concerns of the society. The faster justice is delivered in cases of atrocities against women, the greater assurance half of the population will have about their safety.” He also said that there were several stringent laws to deal with crimes against women, and there was a need to ensure better coordination in the criminal justice system to ensure faster justice.
