Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Russell Crowe Unite for Sci-Fi Thriller Bluefly.

High-stakes mission in the Congo set to begin filming in Australia later this year.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Academy Award winner Russell Crowe are joining forces in the upcoming science fiction action thriller Bluefly. Directed by Nimród Antal, best known for Predators, the film promises a gripping blend of suspense, mystery, and high-octane adventure. The screenplay has been crafted by David Frigerio, William Eubank, and Carlyle Eubank, bringing together a team experienced in weaving intense, character-driven narratives.

Set against the backdrop of the Congo, the story follows a UN translator mourning a personal loss who is unexpectedly drawn into a covert operation. The mission: recover a mysterious aircraft that officially does not exist. As the Special Operations team ventures deeper into militia-controlled territory along the river, the danger escalates. The closer they get to their target, the more they realize the mission was never meant to succeed and survival itself becomes uncertain.

The film is backed by a powerhouse of producers, including Michael Jefferson of Polite Society, David Frigerio of Broken Open Pictures, Deborah Glover of G2 Dispatch, and Arianne Fraser and Delphine Perrier of Highland Film Group. Vanessa Yao Guo also joins the production team, alongside a strong lineup of executive producers including Lia Buman, Guy Davies, RuthAnne Frigerio, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Jason Kringstein, Katie Leary, Scott Levenson, and James Norbury. Highland Film Group will oversee worldwide distribution rights, with pre-sales launching at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) market. Principal photography is scheduled to begin later this year on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Russell Crowe, celebrated for his Oscar-winning role in Gladiator, was recently seen in Nuremberg and has a busy slate ahead, including Netflix’s Unabomber, The Weight, Billion-Dollar Spy, and Amazon MGM’s Highlander reboot. Priyanka Chopra Jonas continues to expand her global presence, having recently starred in Prime Video’s The Bluff and Heads of State alongside Idris Elba and John Cena. She is also set to headline SS Rajamouli’s highly anticipated epic Varanasi, slated for release in April 2027.

With its compelling premise, international production scale, and powerhouse cast, Bluefly is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated sci-fi thrillers of the coming year.
